Additionally, it featured an extensive torpedo armament, including forward-facing tubes and two quad-mounted trainable launchers, as well as a prison hold for captured crews. However, her complex design resulted in mechanical issues, slow dive times, and poor stability in rough seas. After escaping to England when France fell, she was seized by the British before being handed over to the Free French. While admired by French forces, the Royal Navy remained skeptical of her combat effectiveness.
